Course Information

Course Dates:

  • Class Starts: May 29th
  • Ends: June 26th

 Tuition:

  • District Tuition:  $125.00

 Permits:

  • Each student is required to get a county instructional permit prior to the first classmeeting
  • Students must be atleast 14 ½ years old to obtain a permit and enroll in driver education.
  • Student must be with a legal guardian and have a certified birth certificate, social security card, photo ID (school ID or Yearbook), and a Verification of Compliance(from H.S. office) to get the permit.
  • Permits can be obtained at the County DMV in HSB (hours: 9:00am-noon, 1:00pm-4:30pm)
  • Cost of the permit is $21.50
  • Permits are now generated at a central location and mailed to the school within 10 days.
  • The permit expires 5 days after the permit holder’s 18th birthday.
  • The permit expiration for people 17 ½ + is 180 days from the day the permit was issued.
  • Students driving illegally on public roads will have permits revoked resulting in removal from the course.

 Driving and Class Times:  Tentative Schedule

 Attendance:

  • Students are expected to be on time for class sessions and scheduled driving times.
  • Notify instructor in advance if you cannot attend a scheduled session.
  • There is a point system for attendance.  Accumulating seven points will result in failing the course.
    • Each tardy (classor drive) is one point
    • Missing a drive(unexcused) is two points
    • Missing class(unexcused) is three points
  • All missed time must be made up.
  • 30 hours of class, 6 hours of observation, and 6 hours of driving are required to pass.

 Grades:

  • There are three graded areas: Skill (driving), Knowledge (class), and Attitude.  Students must pass all three with at least an 80% average in order to pass the course.
  • Classroom grades will be based on daily assignments, quizzes, and tests.

 Driving:

  • Six hours of driving is required during the course.
  • Students must wear shoes (no sandals or flip-flops) while driving.
  • Students that require corrective lenses must wear them while driving.
  • Notify instructor of medical issues or medication that may affect driving.
